ECONOMICS

This course aims at bringing the significant basic concepts of the economics to under graduate students of Dep. of Civil Engineering. Both microeconomics and macroeconomics would be introduced in this course. The students need to understand the relationship between the economic environment and the construction industry.

BUSINESS ESSENTIALS

An introduction to the knowledge body consists of What is Business? The Evolution of Business, Entrepreneurs, Managers, and Employees, Multinational and the Global Environment of Business, Business Ethics and the Legal Environment of Business, Leadership and Management ,The Structure and Culture of a Business Organization, Information Technology and E-Commerce, Sales, Distribution, and Customer Relationship Management, Human Resource Management and etc.

ENGINEERING ECONOMICS

Engineering economy is the dollars-and-cents side of the decisions that engineers make or recommend as they work to position a firm to be profitable in a highly competitive marketplace. Inherent to these decisions are trade-offs among different types of costs and the performance (response time, safety, weight, reliability, etc.) provided by the proposed design or problem solution. The mission of engineering economy is to balance these trade-offs in the most economical manner.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

This cause is introduction international project management methodology that based on the PMBOK which established by United States Project Management Institute (PMI). There will include project management framework, five primary process of project management (Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring and Controlling, Closing ), Ten knowledge areas of project management(Integration, Scope, Time, Cost, Quality, Human resource, Communication, Risk, Procurement, Stakeholder) and important ITTO(Input, Tool, Technique, Output) for each sub-process.

MANAGEMENT

An introduction to the knowledge body of management is taught and also applies such knowledge to help others by e-commerce. The topics include management environment, organization, cooperation social responsibility, human resourcing, planning and organizing, motivation, leadership, team work and communications.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

Corporate finance is the area of finance dealing with monetary decisions that business enterprises make and the tools and analysis used to make these decisions. The primary goal of corporate finance is to maximize corporate value while managing the firm's financial risks.

STATISTICS

The goal of this course is teach students to make use of their knowledge on statistics to do data analysis. This course emphasizes the integration of application of computer software and statistical practice. The three main topics covered are: descriptive statistics, probability, and inferential statistics.

CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT

To develop the construction project management concepts and skills, this course introduces the primary issues and related methodologies within each phase of construction project lifecycle to undergraduates. Students would be enabled to be assistants of construction projects.

QUALITY CONTROL AND EXPERIMENT DESIGN

This course is designed for students to understand concepts of quality control, current QC systems for the construction of public works, statistics basics, statistical quality control, and the methods and application of design of experiment (DOE).

INTRODUCTION TO URBAN PLANNING

This course begins by introducing the history and theory of urban planning in western world. Then focuses on the mechanism and varies tool used by the urban planning in Taiwan.

INTRODUCTION TO MECHANICAL AND ELECTRO-MECHANICAL ENGINEERIN

This course provides students the basic concepts of electro-mechanical engineering in construction. The topics include: introduction to mechanical/electrical systems as well as automation and robotics in construction, fundamentals of electric theory, resistive network analysis, dynamic circuit analysis, semiconductors and diodes, rectifier circuits, amplifier and switch circuits, electric machines, electric drives, mechanisms, multi-axis mechanisms.

CONSTRUCTION LAW AND CONTRACT

In this curriculum, I am going to introduce the important basic concepts about Civil Code, contract law, construction contract, Government Procurement Act, the dispute resolution, etc., and further discuss the commonest and most important legal issues in the present practice of construction industry through case study.

DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM PROGRAMMING AND APPLICATION

This course is aimed at introducing the concept of the database management system (DBMS) to students, and developing the skills that students can design, manipulate, and create a database program with their own. The relational database, E-R model, concept of database normalization and SQL will be learned in this course. Finally, students need to implement a small but basic engineering database with Microsoft Access to show the skills learned in this course.

CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATING

This course is designed for students to understand the concepts of engineering cost estimation. Students will have the opportunity to learn the cost analysis and estimation of budget for civil engineering projects.

REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT AND MANAGEMENT

1 combining theory and practice. 2 By the time series data to provide indicators of market dynamics. 3 To investigate the interaction between the economy and the real estate investment business cycle indicators of operating practices. 4 investigate profits and risks of real estate investment management. 5 Discussion of real estate trusts, real estate securitization and future trends derivatives. 6. Understanding of domestic real estate market trends. 7 comparative analyses of real estate trends and investment on both sides.

MARKETING MANAGEMENT

Marketing is the process which creates, communicates, delivers the value to the customer, and maintains the relationship with customers.

ENGINEERING APPLICATION OF COMPUTERS

This course provides a set of solutions including software selection, data exchange to achieve a design project by consistent information in a prompt behavior 3D environment. All information from different fields integrated and managed by one system. All model objects, drawings, reports and other relevant document data can be operated in connective and correlative condition.

CONSTRUCTION METHODS & CONSTRUCTION MACHINERIES

The contents of this subject include the basic knowledge of construction methods, construction sequences and machineries of civil engineering project. Students will be able to understand the working condition in the site.

PROJECT PLANNING AND CONTROL

An introduction to the knowledge body consists of the basic concept of scheduling models, Bar-charts, CPM and PERT, Work Breakdown Structure, RBS(Resource Breakdown Structure), CBS(Cost Breakdown Structure), Calendars and Resource Calendar, Resource leveling and allocation, Earn Value Management, Format settings , reports and schedule updating.

INTRO. TO ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING

From the sanitation of civil engineering field to the present environmental engineering and the issue of climate changes, this course will introduce the all for environmental issue and the latest international trend. According to the understanding of various environmental problems, the students can learn the concept of various treatment processes, related engineering technology and the principle of environmental sustainability. The major topics of course include environmental pollution, latest treatment technology, renewable energy, climate changes and energy conservation/low-carbon.

PROJECT RESEARCH

The objectives of the course are to establish the ability of problem solving, field operation, report writing and oral presentation through research projects or internships.

ECOLOGICAL ENGINEERING METHODS

This course covers a variety of ecological engineering methods and their applications for various engineering problems. Emphasis is placed on slope renovation, retaining engineering, bank revetment, groundsill works and ecosystem in a river as well as ecological corridor.

CONSTRUCTION ENTERPRISE RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

This course is to teach construction and project related management theory, standard process flow, 6 major variables of management, standard management tables, organization, system, IT system, integration, communication and change management. Most important, to let student on-line using PO-ERO/SYSCAB to simulate real world management scenario.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

This is an introduction course to artificial intelligence and expert system (ES). The course is application oriented. The contents of the course include fundamental theory of AI, architecture of expert systems and development methodology. Hands-on practice is arranged throughout the course to let students use ES shell to plan and program a prototype system in order to fully experience the building process of ES.

INTRODUCTION TO GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM

This course will mainly introduce fundamental knowledge of GIS to help students understand the practical value and international perspective of remote sensing applied to civil engineering. During class, students will be divided into several teams to conduct real case projects and discuss results so that students can develop general sense technology of remote sensing.
