Counseling Assistance

The counseling work toward students from the Department:

 

1. Tutor system

Tutor need to meet students at least 10 times each semester, the activities include: teacher interviews, academic counseling, telephone interviews, and so on. Teachers need to stay at least eight half-days per week. The chair will be the director of the tutors. There are two tutors for each freshman class, counseling 31 students in average, and 1 tutor for each 2nd to 4th year student. By the tutor and student meetings, freshmen parent teacher meeting, and daily life assistance establish a positive interaction between teachers and students, and provide students counseling and assistance of lessons and life.

 

2. The early warning system of Mid Term Exam

The school send the Department and the tutor a notify letter if a student fail half of the credits in the Mid-Term exams, thus to solve difficulties in schoolwork of the students as soon as possible and decrease the drop-out of students.

According to the statistics, the ratio of having half of the credit to be failed of students of Engineering College is the highest. The early warning system is a precaution to remind students to be aware of their learning condition in advance to avoid facing pressure of dropping out, and as a result of overloading of mind.

 

3. Remedial teaching

Students can go to the teachers' offices and discuss schoolwork with the teachers during or after class time. There are usually two full-time office assistant in the department to answer questions of students on schoolwork.

 

4. Promotion GEPT (GEPT) and (TOEIC) Certification

School offers free classes of TOEIC and GEPT during the winter and summer vacations to improve students' English proficiency efficiently.

 

5. Midterm Course Withdrawing of Students

(1) Taking the special circumstances students might meet after the mid-term exams into consideration, there is "Tamkang University student midterm course withdrawal"

(2) Students can withdrawal course from 11 AM on the Monday to 10AM of the Sunday in 13th week of School Calendar from the internet. Withdrawing behind the deadline will not be accepted.

(3) The mid-term course withdrawal is limited to two subjects per semester for each student.

(4) The super seniors, the Master Degree’s students, Ph.D students should at least take one course (including dissertation) after the midterm withdrawing. Freshmen, sophomores, juniors of all departments and the seniors of Department of Architecture should at least take 15 credits of course after mid-term course withdrawal. The seniors of all departments and the fifth grader of Department of Architecture should take at least 9 credits of courses after mid-term course withdrawal.

(5) Students should pay in accordance with credit fees of all courses including the midterm withdrawing courses (credit tuition, computer and network usage fee, language laboratory fees), those who have already paid before the midterm withdrawal period will not be refund, and those who haven’t pay should still pay the fees afterwards.
